Death - A Whole New Life

We meditate on death during this First Week in order to get the right perspective on life.

Ask for the grace to truly understand death and see how it affects my life here and now. A true understanding and appreciation of death helps us to separate the important things in life from the unimportant. When we have really looked death in the face we realize that we will take nothing with us into eternity except what we have of Jesus Christ.

There are several facet to death:

IT IS UNPREDICTABLE
Luke 12:35-40 - the time is unknown

IT CAN TAKE US BY SURPRISE - CATCH US EMPTY HANDED
Luke 12:16-21
Matthew 16:26

YET DEATH IS NOT THE THING TO FEAR
Luke 12:4-7

DEATH IS AN EVENT OF HOPE - AN EVENT OF PROMISE OF WHAT IS TO COME - AN ENTRANCE INTO A NEW LIFE:
Revelation 7:16-17 - the fulfillment of Promise
Revelation 21:1-7 Isaiah 48:8-15 - we are a pilgrim people with no lasting city
1 Cor 2:9 - its promise is incomprehensible
2 Cor 5:1-10 - it is an everlasting home 1 Cor 15:54-58 - Death is Victory
